When the leaves get about 5-6 inches you can start cutting. They are very tender at that stage……… Donald

That certainly is an option. When I replant it gives me a chance to clean up the row of any weeds and grass……… Donald

hmm, now here is where I think I might have a good suggestion for you. My Dad taught me this a long time ago. Fold the leaf in half, and pull the center rib out gently…

Why don’t you just cut off the leaves, then you should get a couple harvests from one plant!

I usually plant more than we can use so pulling the plants wasn’t an issue. I tried it both ways and I really prefer pulling over cutting. This also gives you a chance to start over with a clean row, no weeds or grass….. Donald

I have just discovered your video’s VERY NICE!!! You explain everything very well. I’m just starting to garden at 46 yrs old!! I’m trying hydroponics also which is fun. I have a question.. why did you take the entire head? Why not just the leaves for the salad? Or did you just plant so many it don’t matter? I don’t have the land you do..wished I did! I started my lettuce seeds in hydro solution..they sprouted in 1 day vs. jiffy in 3 days. But I will put seedlings in soil to grow.

Because I really don’t like the big stems. I’d rather eat the tender leaves, to me they have a better taste…… Donald

too much washing for me. i like my lettuce more dry because even in a colander a good deal of water still stays. also, the stems add crispyness. i only wash a few outer leaves. a little dirt never hurt, in fact some is good. same with bugs

Cut your wire in 4-5 ft. lengths and join the ends with tie wire.
