Yes actually, I ate at a restaurant in Gatlinburg called The Pedlar and they have a salad bar where they served pickled okra and it’s really good. Kind of like dill pickles without such a strong taste. And I will watch your video on the microwaved okra. I’m already planning on trying it. Also, do you have any recipes you would recommend for big meals consisting of mainly okra? Thanks a lot Donald

Hey, awesome video! I am from Canada and okra really isn’t popular here at all and I had some down in Tennessee a few months ago and I came back and grew some through the summer. I eat them raw, cooked, however they are, and thanks for the tips on the okra! Thanks a WHOLE lot!

Someone stopped by today to see how the garden was doing and told me she tried the microwave okra recipe and loved it. She had several other people try it and they all said it was great. I think you’ll like it too. Pickling the small ones isn’t bad either……. Donald

Well that all depends on how early you get a frost or freeze. It’s probably too late right now but if you have the seed, roll the dice. I have some planted that’s about 4 inches tall and a few about 2 ft. tall. The smaller ones I don’t think will make but I do expect to harvest from the larger ones. August 1st is the recommended deadline for okra in Louisiana. Where do you live?

Your first garden, that’s great. Each year you’ll learn a little more and one day you’ll realize just how easy it is. Full sun, plenty fertilizer, water, keep the weeds down and you’ll do just fine. Oh and plenty liquids of course.

“Plenty of beverages.” hahahaha….I got that covered. Hey webcajun, just wanted to drop a line and tell you that I really enjoy your videos and website. You’ve inspired me to garden. I have my first one ever this year. I’m going to go a bit bigger next year. Keep the videos coming and thanks for all the tips!!!

That’s a hard question to answer. It depends on a couple of factors. How big are the plants and how big are you picking the pods? Those 6 lbs. came off of about 150 plants that have just started to produce. They’re about 24-36″ tall and most of those pods were small. If you’re asking how much should you plant for your own use, I’d say a few doz. plants would give you all the okra you’d want. They’ll make all summer long.

Hey webcajun….how many plants does it take to get 6 lbs of okra?

To really get a taste of it try to find some fresh okra, not the one in the can.
